TCK Review of Gertner : Yay for Asay

Pinned

Its finally here! Shloime Gertner's 2nd debut album has hit the Jewish music scene. While being shipped worldwide the album became available on mostlymusic.com and brought to the Yeshiva University SOY Seforim Sale late Thursday night.

Emails, tweets, and BBMs were being sent all around me as fans couldn't wait to hear what the talented Gertner has given us a 2nd time around. I am happy to report that I love this album just like I loved the first. There is a 14 track song list and each one has its own style!

Before the album arrived we were teased by TeeM Productions each week with a small sample of what was coming. We read some lyrics, heard song clips, and the beautiful album cover artwork getting us hyped for the big day.

This album, being amazing, truly brings out Shloime's talent and personality. You can even hear his "shmeichel" as he sings each song. The songs are powerful, fun and extremely enjoyable to listen to.

We were also privileged to be able to hear talents by other composers and arrangers. Composers include Yossi Green, Boruch Levine, Pinky Weber and Motty Ilowitz-to name a few. The amazing Yisroel Lamm once again wows us with his arrangements, along with the help of many talented others. One of my favorite slow songs- track 2- "HaShomayim" features the incredible voice of Yitzy Waldner singing with Gertner on this beautifully composed song. Yossi Green brings his talent to life as we hear him singing along side Gertner on a number of songs. Mo Kiss's Kol Noar Boys Choir appears as well.

There is a variety of "techno" style songs, Israeli style, some Yiddish, inspiring, and uplifting. There is definitely something for everyone on this album. One can tell how much work has gone into making this album as awesome as it is. Each song is my favorite, to name some- Ashrei Mi, Ein Kelokainu-which is a different sound than I have heard, but its funky and truly amazing, I love it! Happy Birthday is very fun to listen to, and hey- now Shloime can sing at everyone's birthday parties! What's an album without a Mi Bon Siach? Shloime sings this chupah song beautifully. The title track, "Say Asay" was written very well and the lyrics and tune set the rhythm for the rest of the album.

This album was definitely worth the wait and I am so excited to finally blast it on my ipod.

'Asay', to please buy this album!!
