Happy 4rd Birthday to THECOOLJEW.com
THE FULL STORY OF THECOOLJEW.com:
as told by the Yosef Shidler - Webmaster for TheCoolJew
The domain name was bought in on a Laptop in the San Fransico Airport right around midnight on December 31st and became active and working in the early hours of Jan 1st. I was in the city for two weeks running a chanukah camp for many non religious kids. It was now over and was waiting to board a plane out of the city. That night on the secular calendar was Dec 31st. I had been looking for a way to keep in touch with all the kids at the camp. This was when facebook was just becoming big. I had the idea to make a system which was like the myspace and would be Jewish and this way I would stay in touch with the kids. On the last days of the camp I told the kids of my plan and we discussed the name for the website. We had many ideas. We really wanted CoolJew.com but it was already taken so it was decided that it would be THECOOLJEW.com. So on the way out of town right before getting on the plane back to New York, where I was studing, I purchased the domain name thecooljew.com. It didnt go live until the next morning Jan 1 2006. When I got back to NY I began working on building a system that would be used to keep in touch. Unffortanatly the system that was created didnt kick off to well and the contact with the campers stayed manily with other sites. Thus for a while after getting the website it sat unused. During Peasach of that year I decided to turn it into a news website just for Jews in Colorado. It worked out very good with the name - The COlorado OL(online) Jew. The website ran for a couple of months and then stopped it due to lack of growth. The website wasnt touched until late in October of 2007 when I got the idea to turn it in to a public jewish site and has stayed that way since. Thanks for making TheCoolJew what it is today.
