Israel Seizes Another Ship
Jerusalem - Israeli forces seized a Gaza-bound aid vessel without meeting resistance on Saturday, preventing it from breaking an Israeli maritime blockade of the Hamas-ruled territory days after a similar effort turned bloody.
The military said its forces boarded the 1,200-ton Rachel Corrie cargo ship from the sea, not helicopters.
The takeover stood in marked contrast to a violent confrontation at sea earlier this week when Israeli commandos blocked a Turkish aid vessel trying to break the blockade. At the time, Israeli commandos rappelled from helicopters and a clash with passengers left nine pro-Palestinian activists dead.

Coca-Cola in Israel

A friend asked, "Why weren't you successful with the Israelis?"
The salesman explained, "When I got posted, I was very confident that I would make a good sales pitch. But I had a problem. I didn't know how to speak Hebrew. So I planned to convey the message through three posters.First poster : A man lying in the hot desert sand totally exhausted and fainting.
Second poster : The man is drinking Coca-Cola.
Third poster : Our man is now totally refreshed.
And then these posters were pasted all over the place.
"Terrific! That should have worked!" said the friend.
"'It really should have!" said the salesman.
"No one told me they read from right to left!"

דבר תורה-פרשת שלח

My רבי said over an amazing idea today in שיעור, although I can’t remember who he quoted as having said it.
We say that every single piece of אגדה that is brought down in the גמ' is somehow connected to the הלכות that it appears near. At the end of מסכת כתובות the גמ' brings down a whole slew of אגדות regarding things that will happen in א"י during the time of משיח. The obvious question is what is the connection between א"י and כתובות?
When a husband gives a כתובה to his wife, he is in essence showing the utmost display of love and affection that he can. He is promising his wife that no matter what happens, through thick and thin during the marriage, and regardless of whether the marriage ends with his death or his divorce, he will make sure that she is provided with her needs after he is not around anymore.
We know that הר סיני was compared to a חופה, and that ה' and כלל ישראל effectively got “married” then. The תורה was the gift that effected the קידושין so to speak, however, the "כתובה" with which ה' promised to take care of us and provide for us with our every need was א"י. ארץ ישראל will always be the place where a lost Jew can go to be safe and taken care of. This is why it is mentioned with כתובות.
In this week’s פרשה, when the מרגלים said לשון הרע about ארץ ישראל, not only did they say לשון הרע about an inanimate object, they actually spoke לשון הרע about the One who gave it to us! Through spurning His promise to protect us, they were spurning Him as well. This was comparable to one who is מחרף ומגדף את השם. That is why this עבירה was so incredibly great, that they were now destined to wander through the מדבר for ארבעים שנה, and that each man who lived in that דור was no longer fit to enter the Land, because they had taken ה'’s “כתובה” and chucked it right back at Him.
We are caught in a very difficult time now in ארץ ישראל. This past week’s events have shown us that the world truly does not care about the truth, and ultimately, all they want is to discredit and shame ארץ ישראל and the Jewish people. It is amazing that these events happened in the week of the פרשה that is most about the חשיבות of ארץ ישראל. We must show our support and our love for our כתובה, and take the lesson of מרגלים to heart. The one word that completely turned the report of the מרגלים into one of the worst tragedies was “אפס-but”. We must not say the same thing! It truly does not matter what we think of the government or the people running the country. ארץ ישראל is still our land, which we must love and cherish, despite the drawbacks. לא עלינו that we should ח"ו spurn that which is rightfully ours, as promised by the רבונו של עולם!!! We must stand together against those who wish to destroy the Land, as well as all of our brothers and sisters living there, and through that display of אהבת הארץ, we should be זוכה to see the אגדות at the end of כתובות מסכת come true, במהירה בימינו אמן!
Have a wonderful שבת קודש!

BP's Snag of the Day
Shwekey in Concert in Efrat
Yaakov Shwekey performed in Efrat, Gush Etzion, on Wednesday night before an audience of over 4,000 people of all ages. The audience filled every seat in the open air area designated for the performance and walked at least a kilometer from the parking area to get to the unpaved outskirts of the city. Two large screens made the performance visible to those at the far sides of the endless rows of white plastic chairs, but also added special focus with multimedia presentations of the content and words of the songs.
Shwekey asked to speak in English and the many Anglos in the crowd agreed immediately. The singer told the audience that he loved being in Efrat and that this was the first time there for him. The crowd reacted with thunderous applause.
Groups of youngsters could be seen dancing and jumping to the faster songs throughout the performance. Children of Zichron Menachem, the organization to ease the life of young cancer patients, and groups of special teens were invited to the evening and could be seen swaying to the beat of the songs.
The highlight of the evening was when Shwekey invited a group of the 100 soldiers present, some from the navy commando unit that boarded the flotilla and all of whom had been treated to the evening by the local and regional authority, up on stage to join him. They sang “If I forget thee, O Jerusalem” together to Shwekey’s well known melody, swaying along with the audience. Towards the end, one of the soldiers placed his beret on Shwekey’s head and the singer was visibly moved.
Israeli singer Aaron Razel began the evening with several of his well known tunes, including “Higia Zman HaGeulah--The Time has Come for the Redemption” and Shwekey ended the evening with “Vehi Sheamda”—the Haggadah song whose haunting melody has become his trademark, telling of how G-d saves the Jews from the tyrants that attack them in each generation.
The evening became a Zionist solidarity rally for the IDF and the commandos who boarded the Gaza bound flotilla on Monday night in the face of the world’s condemnation. Efrat residents had hung four giant flags at high points in the Judean city in support of Israel’s actions, and the screens showed video clips of them doing so while a firework display took place. The flags can be seen in Bethlehem, Beit Jala and all the way to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.
Efrat Mayor Oded Revivi said:| “Facing the hatred that has spewed forth against the citizens of Israel from so many pars of the world, we come with national pride, proud to call this country our own. We are here by right and not only because of our strength.”
Shwekey, whose appearance in Efrat is his only one on this trip to Israel, agreed that his performance was intended to show his solidarity and identification with the people and state of Israel. (For more details on the singer, click here.)
