Satmar Protest in Washington DC
VIN News Washington - Over two thousand fervently Orthodox Jews protested outside the White House against the excavation of ancient graves in Israel.
The protest, organized by True Torah Jews, the Central Rabbinical Congress, and Asra Kadisha, took place Tuesday to coincide with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit with President Obama.
According to Rabbi David Niederman, a representative for the Central Rabbinical Congress, the protest had three goals. In addition to raising awareness about what the groups view as the desecration of ancient gravesites in Ashkelon and Jaffa, event organizers wanted to draw a distinction between the state of Israel and the Jewish people. They also wanted to protest the Israeli government’s suppression of protesters in Israel who disapprove of the excavations.
“Free speech and religion must prevail,” Niederman said. “The state of Israel does not represent the Jewish people.”
Protesters delivered a petition to Israel’s embassy in Washington on Tuesday morning. According to Niederman, the embassy refused to accept the petition

At least 220 die as fuel truck explodes in Congo
SANGE, Congo — A tanker truck hauling fuel on a rural eastern Congo highway overturned, gushing oil and exploding in a massive fireball that killed about 220 bystanders, including many who had been watching the World Cup in flimsy roadside shacks, officials and witnesses said Saturday.
The Red Cross said at least 61 children and 36 women were among the dead. Witnesses said dozens of people had descended on the truck to siphon fuel illegally from the wreckage with jerry-cans and plastic buckets, apparently unaware of the danger.
U.N. peacekeepers rushed to evacuate more than 200 wounded from the scene by helicopter and ambulance, while Red Cross teams carried the charred bodies from the scene in body bags and buried them in two mass graves a few miles away.
The truck overturned as it was trying to pass a minibus late Friday near the village of Sange, around 20 miles north of Uvira, a town on the northern tip of Lake Tanganyika near the Burundi border, said Mana Lungwe, manager of the Congolese oil company that owns the truck. The vehicle began gushing oil, then burst into flames an hour later.
Lungwe said the driver was injured in the accident and taken to a local clinic before the blast occurred. Sange is located between Uvira and the Congolese provincial capital, Bukavu, further to the north.
As oil began leaking from the damaged tanker, Pakistani peacekeepers from a nearby U.N. base "came and told people to get away from the area, but people refused to leave," said Bedide Mwasha, a 45-year-old resident.
"Men, women and children, even (government) soldiers were stealing petrol," Mwasha said, adding that when night fell, one woman lit a kerosene lamp that may have ignited the blaze.
דבר תורה-פרשת פינחס
The בנות צלפחד came to משה רבינו and complained that their father died in the מדבר from his own sin, and specified that he was not a part of קרח ועדתו.
The משך חכמה says that חז"ל tell us that the בנות צלפחד were very wise, smart women. They were able to דרשן out a rather interesting הלכה in their favor, to which ה' concurred. They knew that the children of people killed via בית דין מיתת still inherit their father’s properties, while the children of someone executed for rebelling against the king lose their inheritance to the king’s dominion. משה רבינו had the status of a מלך, as חז"ל learn out from the פסוק of ויהי בישורון מלך, they therefore were quite particular and wise in their wording when they said to משה רבינו that "בחטאו מת", he died from his own sin, either from the sin of the מעפילים, those who tried to go up to ארץ ישראל without permission, or he was the מקושש עצים on שבת, and therefore his property went to his יורשים, namely, the daughters. However, if he had been in the עדת קרח, who split away from משה רבינו in order to rebel against him, he would have been considered someone who was executed by the king, and for this reason, they specified that he was killed for his own עבירות, and was very much not a part of קרח ועדתו.
אי"ה, we should all take a lesson from the בנות צלפחד to learn to be careful in the way that we speak, and that ה' should be מסכים to everything that comes out of our mouths.
Have a wonderful שבת קודש!!!
