דבר תורה-ראש השנה ופרשת האזינו

At the end of this week’s פרשה, the תורה tells us that משה רבינו came and spoke the words of the whole שירה of פרשת האזינו in the ears of כלל ישראל, along with הושע בן נון. I saw various explanations for why משה רבינו chose to call him הושע here, as opposed to the name that משה רבינו himself had dubbed for יהושע when he went into א"י with the מרגלים.

רש"י says that the reason for this was because משה רבינו wanted to show that יהושע had not grown haughty since his name had been changed. Even though greatness had been thrust upon him, he was as humble as he had been in his youth.

In his very practical and פשט-oriented style, the אבן עזרא comments that יהושע was a name that was only known and used by the leaders of the nation, by the קריאי מועד ואנשי שם. The rest of כלל ישראל only knew him as הושע. Since משה רבינו was addressing the nation as a whole, he used the name that was most well-known to the people.

The אור החיים says that the extra "י" had been given to יהושע by משה רבינו as a way of showing him כבוד and greatness. However, in the circumstance where he was standing next to the person who had given him this honor in the first place, the תורה is showing that it wouldn’t be appropriate to afford him that title.

Lastly but certainly not least, the כלי יקר writes that his name had only been added on to in order to protect him from the evil of the other מרגלים. However, once that whole generation had already died, it was “safe” again so to speak to call him by his original name.

All of these פשטים may be pointing to the idea that יהושע would not be able to rely anymore on the תפילה and the protection of his רבי. Now that יהושע was going to be leading the nation, he would have to take up the mantle of leadership on his own terms, and on his own merits, as הושע, his original essence.

This idea is very poignant for ראש השנה as well. During our תפילות, we are constantly bombarding ה' to remember the זכויות of others, (mostly the אבות.) In fact, a whole section of the מוסף on ראש השנה deals with the idea of begging ה' to remember our past זכויות. However, we are only asking for that in terms of the קהל. When יהושע was considered part of a קהל, he needed an extra leg to stand on, which משה רבינו provided for him with the addition to his name. Once that קהילה was gone, יהושע was reverted back to his old persona. So too, when we are davening for ourselves, we are being judged based on our own merits, as individual people. We must make sure that as we lead our own personal lives, we take up that mantle of leadership and show our own true essences with whatever merits we can in order to be judged favorably.

May we all be זוכה to a כתיבה וחתימה טובה and א גוט, געבענשט יאר, with ברכה, הצלחה, פרנסה, געזונט, מזל, נחת, שמחה, וכל משאלות לבנו יהיה לטובה.

Have a meaningful and wonderful יום טוב and שבת קודש! יהי רצון שה"שמים" יאזין אל דבורינו!

Man climbs Millennium Towers in San Francisco

A man climbed the Millennium Tower in San Francisco Monday afternoon.

The man, in his 50s, is believed to be Dan Goodwin, also known as "Skyscraper Man."

Goodwin started climbing the 58-story residential tower around 2:15 p.m. He completed the climb just before 5:30 p.m. and was immediately taken into police custody.

Goodwin is an experienced climber with a history of climbing skyscrapers. He says he climbs to raise awareness about the vulnerability of buildings to terrorism and about his person bout with cancer. He climbed the World Trade Center in 1983 and the Sears Tower in 1981.

San Francisco police and fire officials monitored the climb.

Goodwin used large, suction cup-like devices during his free climb. Building residents were seen opening their windows and offering him water along the way.

Shomrim Patrol Get Bullet-Proof Vests

Borough Park, NY - If you live in Borough Park section of Brooklyn you might notice the members of the Brooklyn South Safety Patrol (BSSP) also know as Shomrim Patrol looking a little more like the National Guard, that's because starting today officers will be wearing bullet-proof vest while on patrol.

The new addition comes amid worry over the shootings last week of four of their members, as was reported here on Vos Iz Neias, in what otherwise is known as a safe neighborhood.

Also pitching in is New York State Senator Eric Adams (D, Brooklyn)who will hold a press conference later today to announce the purchase of some bullet proof vests for the members of Borough Park Shomrim.

Senator Adams states in a press release, "I visited one of the injured patrol members in the hospital; we must do everything we can to protect these brave men who put themselves in harm's way to protect us from danger. A bullet proof vest cannot guarantee safety, but it may save a life."

"The Shomrim risk their own security in their valiant effort to protect their fellow citizens, and I hold its members in the highest esteem."

At the press conference, Senator Adams will display a sample vest that will be purchased for the group,

A Rosh Hashanah Meditation

Once, after Rosh Hashanah prayers, the Alter Rebbe asked his son, the Mitteler Rebbe, "With what meditation did you pray this Rosh Hoshanah?" He replied, "With the verse, 'All mankind shall prostrate themselves before You'." Then the Mitteler Rebbe asked his father, "With what meditation did you pray?" The Alter Rebbe responded, "I prayed with my lectern."

"All mankind shall prostrate before You" speaks about a human being, whether of superior or limited intellect. Therefore, even if his intellect leads him to the conclusion that he must "prostrate before G-d," it is a result of his own intellectual contemplation, and therefore his submission to G-d is only commensurate to his intellectual capacity.

A prayer lectern is an inanimate object, the lowest form in existence. So when one meditates upon the fact that G-d is everything — including this very lectern, the recognition of the lectern's submission before G-d is deeper and more profound than the recognition of his own subservience; it is a pure, simple and total submission which transcends the limitations of human intellect and can connect one to the very essence of G-d.

Rosh Hashana: In The Merit of Children

Rosh Hashana: In The Merit of Children

It was in the year 1944 when the Ministering Angels (מלאכי השרת) asked the Creator of the World, "When is Rosh HaShana?" and HaShem answered, "Why do you ask Me? Only the Bet Din of the lower world rules when Rosh HaShana begins."

The angels descended to Yerushalayim and heard the Rabbanim of the Bet Din announce that Rosh HaShana will commence Sunday night. They returned to Shamayim and began organizing for the Day of Judgment. They took out all the books, in it are written each person's actions and presented it to the Heavenly Throne. They requested the prosecutor, the Satan, as well as the defender, Angel Gabriel, including all witnesses to be present for the first day of Rosh HaShana, Monday.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, one of the angels heard songs of Rosh HaShana prayers "ותמלוך אתה הוא ה' אלקינו מהרה לבדך על כל מעשיך בהר ציון משכן כבודך" And Only You HaShem our King, will rule quickly on Har Zion, the seat of honor".

Upon hearing this, the angel marveled why Rosh HaShana prayers began Sunday morning when clearly, the Bet Din of Yerushalayim pronounced that Rosh HaShana would begin Sunday evening.

The angel went down to Yerushalayim and was surprised to see all the shops open and people purchasing food, getting ready for the Chag but yet, he continually hears prayers of Rosh HaShana! He wondered if the prayers are coming from far away Europe. But at the time, Eastern Europe was occupied by the German Nazis and who could be praying at such a time?

The angel flew to Yugoslavia and thought the praying is coming from further away, perhaps Italy. When he arrived in Italy, it seemed to the angel that the singing is coming from Germany - the capital city of the Nazis.

The angel flew over Munich and heard the praying songs undoubtedly coming from the Cathedral. He entered the Cathedral and saw the Bishop, but it was not from his throat the prayers were emerging from. The angels heard children's voices and followed these voices until he entered a small room.

Inside, he saw 2 young children dressed as choirboys and singing prayers of Rosh HaShana. The angel became visible to the children and asked them why they thought that Rosh HaShana is now. They told the angel that their parents placed them inside the Cathedral in order to save their lives and they promised their parents they would never forget they were Jewish and will try to observe the Jewish holidays. But because they had neither a calendar nor any contact with other Jews, they were unsure when Rosh HaShana begins. They assumed it is today, Sunday.

The children's devotion to their heritage genuinely affected the angel, and he flew directly to Shamayim to tell all the angels what he witnessed.

The angels were excited and inquired, "When does Rosh HaShana begin? Is it when the Bet Din of Yerushalayim ruled or is it today, the day the innocent children are singing praises to HKB'H inside the Cathedral?" The angels were unsure what to do because they didn't want to disappoint the children. After a short court deliberation, one angel got up and said, "I know what we will do! This year, Rosh HaShana will be 3 days". All the angels unanimously agreed.

When the Satan heard this, he chuckled: "Nonsense! Never was such a thing heard of. Rosh HaShana will begin as the Rabbanim of Yerushalayim ruled!" Thus, the Satan decided not to be present at the Bet Din of Shamayim till Monday.

The innocent holiness of children is very important to HKB'H and as a result, HaShem administrated the Bet Din of Shamayim without the Satan on Sunday. That year, in 1944, the Judgment was rendered with total mercy, the most merciful judgment delivered in centuries. HaShem decreed that Hitler (yimach shemo) will die and the Nazis will lose the war, and Am Israel will begin returning to their homeland, Eretz Israel.

Mekubalim tell us that in the year 1944, Rosh HaShana was 3 days; Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and they say that the reestablishment of Eretz Israel was in the merit of the loyal commitment of the 2 children that were praying Rosh HaShana prayers inside the Cathedral of Munich.

Review: Country Yossi Rides Again

::Review: Country Yossi Rides Again
::
By Efriam Weinfeld For TheCoolJew.com

Hello everybody! Apparent from the title of the post, you probably figured out that I'm doing a review of the latest and greatest from Country Yossi. He's made us laugh, cry, makes us sit down and think.....And he's back! After being out of the JM scene for a while (excluding Kivi and Tuki), Country Yossi rides again!! With authority I might add. With this album he proves that he still is the reigning king of musical comedy/story telling. The album is also sprinkled with some nice songs that aren't supposed to be funny. Nice, but not funny, Country Yossi does it all. I'm not going to say that the album is for everyone, but I will say that if you have ever been lucky enough to hear any of his previous albums and enjoyed em', then you're probably listening to the Cd as you read this (I am). A must have for any CY fan this album truly is "Gevaldig"!!! Well, after the excessive use of exclamation points throughout the introductory paragraph we now move on to the nitty gritty details of the album's contents.

Oh Yankel- However badly I wanted to laugh while I was listening to the song, I couldn't because it was so true. I wanted to laugh because Country Yossi was ridiculously blunt with his psak "You are not gonna go to Olam Haba". The message, though interestingly transmitted, is nevertheless correct. Talking in davening is a bad habit and is definitely something to work on. The actual music was very professional, considering it took twenty years to complete. 5 out of 5

I Am The Flower- This song discuses the very real relationship between us and our creator. We are always at his mercy (good thing we are his children, eh?) and must repent. Country Yossi sings the song beautifully using his voice , which seems to have been untouched by age, nicely. A men's choir sings in middle in hebrew, just to add to the message. The music is very subtle, consisting of just a guitar till the last half of the song. Subtle but appropriate for the song.
4 out of 5

Bashert- I found the title for the song a little strange considering the point of the song was for us to do tefilla, tzedaka, and chesed. Whatever. Well the song seems to be following suit with the first three songs, all having to do with preparing for the upcoming Yomim Noraim. Well the song was a bit too trumpety for my style but again Country Yossi uses his voice in the coolest ways, check out 1:22. The song isn't my favorite but I wouldn't skip it. 3 out of 5

Boro Park- Ahh, only Coutry Yossi can pull this one off. He goes through a tour of the Chasidic Center of America (Skver is up there also), from the range of chassidus to burning sheitels(yeah, it's still funny 5 years later). The song is catchy and will probably be the best on the album. 5 out of 5

Rav Shmuel And the Myrtle Twig- I'll be honest, I never knew this story until now so I guess I should be calling him Rabbi Yossi. The story is about Rav Shmuel (surprise!) and a myrtle twig(more surprises!) that he used to entertain many a Kallah by their chasunas, no matter how embarrassing it was, he was always willing to do the mitzva. When he is niftar all the kallos came to pay their last respects. The point is to never be afraid to do whats right. Rabbi Yossi sings the song with a lot of emotion and livens up a story they might be boring if it wasn't being sung by him. 4 out of 5

Shabbos Candles-The song is a beautiful interpretation of the sacred ritual of lighting the Friday night candles. Then the slow song spins a crazy story of the baby born on Shabbos, making it into 8 Shabbos Candles. The song, however nice, is not really my cup of tea yet still strikes a chord in my heart. Think of it as heart candy. 3 out of 5

The Little Old Lady Named Pessy Deena- I don't know who this is but I can relate to the part about everyone fighting over a cleaning lady. Our cleaning lady makes more rounds than a Ferris Wheel, going to and fro ridding the world of the evil germs and grime. I was rolling at the adaption of this one, making it into my second favorite for the album. The music was great and again, of the best quality. 5 out of 5

Shabbos Goy- Oy! I hate when that happens! You can swear to G-d that you shut the lights but somehow it's always on! Then you find a goy and have to spend an hour trying to make it sound as if he should be strolling into a strange bearded man's house and flipping the lights off just for kicks. Hilarious rendition of a common issue found in every Jewish Family. 5 out of 5

Good Morning Klal Yisrael- I guess the song is supposed to be a wake up call for us all to be yearning for Moshiach. I liked the music but the song just didn't hit me right. The vocals were done really well, with the harmony accompanying Country Yossi in every step. I'm gonna say it was potentially nice but the song felt lost in translation. 2 out of 5

There Is a Place- That there is. A lot of places out there, such as Boro Park, but the place we are zoning in on is intagible to us at the moment, and it will be that way until 120 years iy"h. The song illustrates what Olam Haba will look like for us, meeting Hashem and getting our chelek that was promised to us, an everlasting residence. A nice song but it gets a bit redundant after 4 minutes but it isn't half bad. 3 out of 5 (it's 2/5ths bad, 3/5ths good)

I'm Proud To Be a Part Of Am Yisrael- Not sure whats up with the whole crowd cheering thing but I loved this song. Well this ong is all about how different we are from the rest of the world and we should be proud of it. The chilling folksy guitaring makes the song, giving you the urge to chew on a stalk of wheat and wear some overalls (maybe that was just me). 5 out of 5

Somewhere Moshiach- Although this topic was discussed, it never gets old, not when we have Country Yossi with us to convey it in the most original ways possible. The song tells us what will be going down when Moshiach finally gets here..... redemption(sorry for the spoiler but that is what will happen). The song shows again the yearning of every Yid for the coming of the Geulah. This was a typical Country Yossi slow song, not the biggest fan of those but......nah, I probably would skip the song in the future but it's really pretty sweet. 3 out of 5

Elan Elan-The metephor to us needing the tree for our nutrients and roots, is really us and the Torah. An interesting song consisting of unbelievable instrumtation and well versed lyrics. The song is hartzeg and is my favorite slow song on the album. 5 out of 5

Poseiach- This song features a young child prodigy singing without Country Yossi in a completely original composition. The song is soothing and heartrending. The child's voice can reach the stars and never falters for even a moment. The music again is great, proving once again that the wait was well wprth it. 5 out of 5

Overall Score- 8 out of 10

Mosque Investor Was Terror Contributor

Mosque Investor Was Terror Contributor

A key financial backer of the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero once contributed to a U.S.-designated terror group, MyFox New York reports.

Egyptian-born businessman Hisham Elzanaty, who made what is described as a "significant investment" in the Ground Zero mosque project, contributed more than $6,000 in 1999 to the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, also known as HLF, tax records show.

The donations came two years before the federal government shut down HLF and designated it a terror group. Elzanaty's attorney told MyFox New York that his client believed at the time that he was donating to an orphanage. Elzanaty did not respond to questions.

Federal investigators say the group was set up as a Texas-based charity, but in fact supported Hamas.

Ray Locker, managing director of The Investigative Project on Terrorism, told MyFox New York that even in 1999, news outlets reported on possible ties between HLF and terror organizations.

Five HLF leaders were convicted in 2008 of providing support to Hamas.

Mizumen: The Video Promo

Heshy Rubin, Srully Williger & Gideon Levine bring us the brand new super group, Mizumen! Enjoy this stunning video promo featuring 4 of the songs from the upcoming album, Do the Daf, Hinei Anochi, Mimkomcha & Our Identity. Video filmed & edited by Schneur Menaker and produced by Sruly Meyer. Do the Daf filmed at the world headquarters of Artscroll in Brooklyn, NY

Heshy Rubin released his first album, Let There Be Peace, in 1999, after being urged by both Mordechai Ben David and Sheya Mendlowitz to share his music with the world. After singing his emotional composition about Holocaust survivors "Who's Gonna Tell Their Story" at Lincoln Center in 2006, Rubin felt the need to share more of his compositions, though not as a solo artist. He recruited Srully Williger to join him and when they recorded their first song at Gideon Levine's GYL Studios, they realized they had found their third voice, with Levine rounding out the mizumin.

Featuring seven songs by Rubin himself, and songs by Yossi Green, Tzali Stern and a classic song by R' Yechiel Mechel Rubin, A'H, this ten song album features music that is fresh and innovative, without ever losing its Yiddishe ta'am. With arrangements by musical greats Yisroel Lamm and Yaron Gershovsky and vocal arrangements by Gideon Levine, this album, which is set to debut after Yom Kippur, will be a welcome addition to the Jewish music scene.

The CD is expected in stores September 19th.

Review: Non Stop Chabad

Shalom CoolJew readers! TcK is back and I'm ready to give you some of my thoughts and opinions on one of Jewish music's newest hit.

If you keep up with TheCoolJew.com religiously like I do, then you probably heard an interview with Zalman Goldstein, a Chabadnik who has produced many albums of Chabad music over the years. His newest FANTASTIC hit, "Non Stop Chabad," is waiting for you to get up off your feet and start dancing to the excellent 75-minute album which won't have you stopping for a second! This is Goldstein's 12th release in his Chabad Music series. The music featured on this album contain many of today's famous Chabad Niggunim (songs) we hear and enjoy at Fabrengens and Simchas all over the world. The album is entirely instrumental and "Non Stop" throughout all 68 tracks! A large number of songs on this CD are ones you already know and have always loved,no matter how old or young you are.Not only is this album a top notch production, it features top arrangers and musicians as well. Some names you might recognize are Yaaron> Gershovsky, Nachman Dryer & Yanki Ka tina (Guitars), Shlomie Cohen(Sax/Flute), Danny> Flam (Trumpet, Bone and more), Tony Gorruso (Trumpet), Gal Gershovsky (Drums) and Zalman Goldstein (synths and other orchestrations). Each track on the album flows right into the next, living up to its title of "Non-Stop." You press play and let it go for the best 75-minutes that'll get you in a joyous mood. This album will be playing in our homes and kitchens on Erev Shabbos and Yom Tov, filling us with non-stop joy.My favorite thing about this album is that not only are there Niggunim thatwe all recognize, there are also Niggunim for Rosh Chodesh and Holidays. favorite Chabad tunes are arranged and put to music with the help ofexcellent orchestrations and arrangements. I can guarantee that this album will not let anyone down, it will pick you upand help you sore higher on the wings of authentic Simcha. As the High Holidays approach, I pray that the feelings you feel while listening to"Non-Stop Chabad" help in your prayers, and G-d should bless each and every one of you with a year filled with only blessings, joy, and "Non Stop" music!

Friedman Benny he be/
and the many will see/
Benny Friedman be the face of Jewish music industry/
I believe my enemies seek to destroy me/
but my ears will hear, and my eyes will see/
my soul destined to be/
before your throne of glory/
the righteous will flourish and grow like a tree

verse 2
I admit and concede/
that they would have crushed me/
had I not believed/
in the Almighty/
it's the land of the living and there ain't no retreating/
hope in Hashem as my heart keeps beating

chorus
there comes a point where every man discovers a time in his life/
where merely a spark of light/
uncovers and unveils, exposes the darkness of night/
if I can recognize all the blessings I receive/
I'm less inclined to only question, now I question and believe

verse 3
I seek the path of the truth, walk the way of the righteous/
you lifeless/
if you think this life ain't priceless/
despite this/
materialistic world that we live in/
it's given/
that our souls reflect what is written/
this schism/
of realism/
they call TWISM/
can't see the vision of the Lord's eternal wisdom/
don't take it for granted/
like a seed that gets planted/
let your soul grow from wisdom, knowledge, understanding

chorus
there comes a point where every man discovers a time in his life/
where merely a spark of light/
uncovers and unveils, exposes the darkness of night/
if I can recognize all the blessings I receive/
I'm less inclined to only question, now I question and believe

this life ain't what it seems/
gulus merely but a dream/
it's time to lead the way/
no need to be afraid/
we gotta keep the faith/
until we see the day/
children dancing in the streets/
singing songs of love and peace

Prayers help at any time, any time, but nothing is like the days of the month of Elul, at the end of last year say a prayer to the Creator to help protect the people of Israel save the troubles and pains from all his enemies.

Or as he wrote the words inspired by Yishai Lapidot Israel prayer known that all pray on Rosh Hashana:

ראה מה מבקשים בניך,
אבינו מלכינו אין בנו מעשים,

Eldad Ba'al Haness "Adon Haselichot"

Eldad Ba'al Haness

"Adon Haselichot"

Eldad Ba'al Haness was born in Moshav Patish in the Negev, where his father serves as the Rav. From childhood he grew up with authentic oriental music, showing particular musical talent from a young age, both in singing and playing musical instruments. Occasionally he also turns his hand to composing music, particularly for special events and family celebrations. At the age of 16 he took to a violin which he inherited from his grandfather.

Nostalgia became mixed in his music, and he began studying music professionally. "I learned the violin with Nissim Bassa, whilst also learning to play the Ud, a Middle Eastern instrument similar to the violin."

Following his army service he became an active force in the moshav. I started a sheep pen with five sheep and over the years it has developed into a large flock which I raise for lamb till today." So, if you purchased lamb chops from Eldad, you'll be happy to hear that your money was put to good use – a lively, well-crafted album of piyyutim for selichot. The disc was thoughtfully produced involving a large number of artists and instruments.

Top ranking artists lend their skill to the album, for the vocals he himself formed a special children's choir, hand-picked for the purpose which he calls "Pirchei Yisrael". The enclosed single is a credit to the genre of melodies for selichot and serves as a wonderful beginning for the coming year, even to those not accustomed to oriental music.

Welcome sign to Kiryas Joel asks for modesty

VINNEWS - Kiryas Joel, NY - A large new sign greets visitors as they cross over Route 17 on Forest Avenue and enter a world where the skirts and shirt sleeves are always long, regardless of the season.

"Welcome to Kiryas Joel," it reads. "In keeping with our traditions and religious customs, we kindly ask that you dress and behave in a modest way while visiting our community."

The main congregation in this community of 22,000 Satmar Hasidim recently posted identical notices near two village entrances to ask outsiders to respect their ways while visiting, which includes "covered necklines," "appropriate language" and "gender separation in all public areas."

The wording is polite, and there is no threat of enforcement.

But even so, passers-by who have spotted the sign near County Route 105 and Bakertown Road in Monroe have taken umbrage at what they see as an expectation to conform to one group's religious beliefs and dress codes in a public place.

"I know it's a request, and it certainly was a polite request," said James Murphy of Highland Mills. "But it puts me in an uncomfortable position. Why should it bother you what I'm wearing?"

David Ekstein, president of Congregation Yetev Lev, says the signs were meant to guide outsiders so they don't offend village residents, especially during the summer. No single incident or spate of visitors with objectionable clothing triggered them, he said.

"If our standards of modesty are not what is practiced in the surrounding communities, then it is even more incumbent to provide this polite reminder," he said.

Modest dress is strictly observed in Hasidic communities. In New York City, where cultures mix more freely than in self-contained Kiryas Joel, some Hasidic men avoid temptation by removing their glasses while in public or turning away from women.

DOV: The Gift

A star of the professional Jewish music scene for over 10 years (Kol Zimra, Shabbatones, B’samim, Tizmoret) DOV brings his talents, unique style, and extraordinary voice to his first studio album.

A vocalist first and foremost, DOV recognizes the need for quality music to be used as a tool to inspire today’s Jewish youth. Merging biblical texts with contemporary pop sounds, his album is like none other. As the first contemporary Jewish pop album, DOV: The Gift will delight audiences of all ages. DOV: The Gift highlights universal themes, such as the awesome power of prayer (ASEI), belief in G-d (SHIR HAMA’ALOT), and the safety of the men and women who defend our homeland, Eretz Yisroel (HU YIVARECH). The album title (The Gift), which is also the name of the final tack on the CD, was chosen because as each of us knows, we must always be grateful for the things that truly matter in life.

“To make the most of this world that I live in, I’ll do the best with all the gifts I’ve been given. And I won’t make a list, of all the things I’m not. I’ll rise above what brings me down, with the gifts that I’ve got.”

The album is available through Sameach Music and can be purchased on JewishJukebox.com.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF EARL HIT NY

IS EARL A SIGN FROM HASHEM?
Hurricane Earl is already causing a lot of stress, with a possible Evacuation Alert for the east coast of America just issued.

Hmmm.... sounds familiar to obama's peace talks doesn't it? He is saying that Israel should evacuate all areas which they did not possess prior to 1967. So along comes something that gives Obama his own problems regarding evacuation.

Whatever you make of all this, Judaism teaches that there is no such thing as a coincidence.

And just by the way:
Earl in Hebrew is either ארל or ערל (the latter spelling means "uncircumcised").

Fiona, coming up behind Earl, when written in Hebrew, is Phi Onah "My mouth answers".
Hashem could be telling Obama "You uncircumcised one, My mouth is answering you!"

Experts say the L.I. and N.Y.C. areas are due for another big one in the near future. Here's their take on what would happen if a category 3 or higher storm hit the Island/NYC head on...
