Lipa:24/6 Review
By: Mordechai Tiefenbrunn For TheCoolJew.com
I know it's been a while since my last review, but I'm back again to tell you about a fantastic new CD that is sure to fly off of the shelves!
Just over two years after his major compilation CD, "Lipa Non-Stop", and less than a year since the release of "Mei'imka D'Lipa", the never-ending, non-stopping, globe-trotting sensation that is Lipa Schmeltzer is at it again! This time, it's non-stop 24/6, because on Shabbos the only place to catch him is at the Airmont Shul. In fact, the name of the new CD is Lipa: 24/6, and what a CD it is!
Similar to the "Non-Stop" record, this CD features Lipa singing a large collection of his own and other singers' songs on 39 mini-tracks. It's broken down into six major sections, one for each "day" of the "week": Freilach, Funk, Disco, Rock, Mizrachi, and Techno. Lipa chooses a great array of classics and new hits in his mixes here, featuring songs such as the popular "Ki Hirbeisu" in the Freilach mix, "Kol Ha'olam Kulo" and "Avraham Yagel" by R' Baruch Chait, "B'simcha" by Dovid Gabay, etc. in the "Funk" section. In Disco he throws in Shwekey's hit "V'ohavta" and Gertner's "Ashrei Mi". The biggest twists that Lipa throws into this CD though, he saves for the 5th and 6th days, the "Rock" and "Techno" sections, where he has a track originally from Israeli/Mizrachi singing sensation Ayal Golan "Mi Sh'maa'min". What a display of Ahavas Yisrael to incorporate an incredible song from a non-religious singer on the album! My personal favorite part of the album is the intro to the song Na'aleh L'beis Ha'mikdash, which comes from the super popular FIFA world cup anthem "Wavin' Flag", which was made even more popular in the Jewish Music world by Camp Simcha's inspirational music video. The last major notable twist in this album was the Yiddish-efied version of Matisyahu's "One Day" all the way at the end of the CD.
Between day 2 and 3 there is a track titled "The Band" and between days 4 and 5 there is another track titled "The Violinist", each of which features a beautiful classical piece that is sure to delight those inclined towards that kind of music. Lipa uses a new group of musicians for the first time in this CD, the band is Amiran Dvir (a noted Israeli singer and musician in his own right) and his Orchestra, and "The Violinist" is Daniel Ahaviel. The master mixer Eli Lishinsky mixed the techno tracks, which are performed though by Naftali Schnitzler, who co-produced the CD with Lipa himself. Moishie Krausz organized and arranged the children's choir, and Dudi Kalish did the adult choir.
All in all, this CD is sure to keep you smiling and dancing 24/6! Don't forget though that you can get your last Lipa fix on Shabbos too by heading to the Airmont shul! What a great way to enter into Rosh Chodesh Adar II 5771!
